Bharat Taxi extends its cooperative ride-hailing model to five Uttar Pradesh cities
The driver-owned platform has launched in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur and Prayagraj, with local transport and public-safety partnerships.
Bharat Taxi has formally launched in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur and Prayagraj. The cooperative also exchanged agreements with the Airports Authority, Lucknow Metro Rail and Lucknow Police.
The ministry reports more than 10 lakh registered drivers nationally after six months, about 20,000 rides a day and more than ₹100 crore credited to driver accounts. Around 40,000 drivers have registered across the five Uttar Pradesh cities, although the release says they will begin providing services in stages.
Why it matters
The rollout tests whether a driver-owned cooperative can compete in app-based mobility while giving drivers a greater role in governance and earnings participation.

The useful measures are active drivers and riders, wait times, completed trips, fares, driver net earnings, safety, retention and cooperative governance. Registration totals alone cannot establish operating scale.
Limitations
The operating figures are government statements and have not been independently audited. Registration does not prove active service, and city-level availability may develop after the launch event.
