Coal India combines remote sensing, automation and safety systems in mine modernisation

A Coal Ministry backgrounder says Coal India is using two- and three-dimensional seismic surveys, remote sensing, geographic-information systems, LiDAR, drones and equipment-monitoring systems across exploration and operations.
The ministry says non-invasive seismic work can reduce borehole requirements by up to 50%. It also describes a satellite dashboard agreement with the National Remote Sensing Centre, electronic detonators, fatigue monitoring and proximity warnings, while underground connectivity, digital twins and autonomous inspection rovers remain under development.
