Coal companies receive a sector-wide framework for social investment
The new framework is intended to connect local needs, measurable outcomes and monitoring across coal-company programmes.
The Coal and Mines Ministry has launched a sector-specific corporate-social-responsibility framework prepared with the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs.
The ministry says the framework is intended to connect local needs with measurable outcomes and monitoring. It also reported more than 1,050 bone-marrow transplants and 1,500 corrective cardiac surgeries under sector initiatives, while the Nanha Sa Dil programme had screened more than 200,000 children.
Why it matters
Coal regions carry concentrated environmental, health and livelihood burdens. Transparent, locally relevant investment is therefore material to affected communities.
SCULTRA point of view
The framework should be judged through published baselines, verified beneficiaries, independent evaluation, district-level spending, community participation and long-term health and livelihood outcomes.
Limitations
The framework text and evaluation method were not included in the release. The reported treatment and screening totals are ministry figures without outcome or cost data.
