Colombo Security Conclave tests coordination against illicit maritime activity
A three-day exercise used simulated terrorism, smuggling, trafficking and illegal-fishing scenarios to review regional procedures.
A three-day table-top exercise under the Colombo Security Conclave concluded at the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam on 11 September.
Delegations used more than 72 hours of simulated scenarios covering maritime terrorism, narcotics smuggling, human trafficking and illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. Participants reviewed procedures and information-sharing arrangements for maritime-domain awareness.
Why it matters
Illicit maritime activity crosses jurisdictions, making common procedures and trusted information exchange central to a timely regional response.

The exercise is useful if its lessons become interoperable procedures, secure data sharing and measurable improvements during live operations.
Limitations
The release does not name every delegation, disclose the scenarios or identify procedural changes. A table-top exercise does not demonstrate readiness at sea.
