DRDO opens new routes for startup funding, testing and licensed source-code access
The announced framework targets lower entry barriers for smaller defence suppliers and introduces controlled access to DRDO-developed software.
At the VIMARSH industry meeting, DRDO announced a framework intended to lower technical and financial entry barriers for small businesses and deep-technology startups through direct funding, incubation support and access to testing facilities.
It also launched a standardised secure framework for sharing DRDO-developed software source code with licensee industries. Nine licensing agreements for technology transfer were handed to 13 manufacturing partners, and DRDO signed a contract with the Quality Council of India for SAMAR version 2.0 manufacturing-maturity assessment.
Why it matters
Funding, test access, licensing and controlled source-code availability can shorten the path from defence research to production and broaden the supplier base beyond large contractors.

The initiative's value will depend on clear eligibility, predictable licensing, security review, small-company participation, time to contract and evidence that transferred technology reaches reliable production.
Limitations
The release does not include the full frameworks, source-code licence terms, security controls, funding envelope, selection criteria, testing capacity, technology list or manufacturing timetables for the announced agreements.
