Cooperative grain-storage plan reaches 313 completed PACS godowns
The official programme update reports more than 1.80 lakh tonnes of completed storage capacity after an 11-PACS pilot.
India's decentralised cooperative grain-storage plan began with pilot projects across 11 primary agricultural credit societies and 9,750 tonnes of capacity.
By July 2026, the government reported completed godown construction at 313 PACS, creating more than 1.80 lakh tonnes of storage capacity. The wider programme had identified 1,012 PACS or cooperative societies for participation.
Why it matters
Storage closer to farms can reduce logistics friction, support procurement and processing, and create more options for producers deciding when and where to sell. Physical capacity is useful only when it preserves quality and connects reliably with buyers and finance.

Completion counts are an early operating milestone. Productive infrastructure should be assessed through utilisation, spoilage, quality control, handling cost, revenue, maintenance and the economic value created for participating cooperatives and farmers.
