ECLGS 5.0 guarantee use reaches ₹2.50 lakh crore near scheme ceiling
The government reports 673,979 guarantees under a programme capped at ₹2.55 lakh crore and scheduled to run until March 2027 or exhaustion of the limit.
ECLGS 5.0 had issued 673,979 credit guarantees worth ₹2,50,024 crore by 20 August, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The programme has a ₹2.55 lakh crore ceiling and is scheduled to remain open until 31 March 2027 or until that ceiling is exhausted. Eligible MSMEs can receive 100% guarantee cover on qualifying additional credit, while eligible non-MSMEs receive 90% cover.
Why it matters
Rapid use of the guarantee envelope can influence credit availability, public contingent liabilities and the distribution of liquidity support across businesses affected by external disruption.

Guarantee count and sanctioned amount should be separated from actual loan disbursement and business outcomes. The next evidence should show borrower distribution, incremental lending, defaults, claims, employment effects and concentration by lender, region and sector.
