The International Financial Services Centres Authority says 20 banking units at GIFT IFSC had sanctioned US$54.02 billion and disbursed about US$52.82 billion under the Reserve Bank of India's FCNR(B) swap facility by 31 August 2026.

IFSCA also reported US$11.62 billion in external commercial borrowings and US$11.12 billion of bank bond listings in the international financial centre.

Why it matters

The figures indicate growing scale in India's international banking and external-financing infrastructure. Execution through an Indian financial centre can affect access, transaction capability and the development of related legal, treasury and capital-markets services.

SCULTRA point of view

The scale is material, but the measures should not be combined casually. Sanctions, disbursements, borrowings and listed bonds are different indicators, and none alone describes current outstanding exposure, risk, pricing or economic value retained in the centre.

Limitations

The values are regulator-reported and need consistent definitions and periods before comparison with other centres or earlier data. The release does not provide a complete risk, maturity or outstanding-exposure breakdown.
