India participated in the East Asia Summit Economic Ministers' Meeting and the ASEAN-India Economic Ministers Consultation in Manila, where the continuing review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement was a central subject.

The Department of Commerce reports India-ASEAN trade of USD 128.38 billion in 2025-26, equal to 10.55% of India's global trade. The review is intended to improve trade flows, address asymmetries and make the agreement easier for businesses to use.

Why it matters

Changes to AITIGA could affect sector-level market access, rules of origin, customs usability and supply-chain decisions across one of India's largest regional trade relationships.

SCULTRA point of view

Progress should be measured through the revised legal text, sector-specific access, practical business use and whether the resulting trade relationship becomes more balanced, not by meeting participation alone.

Limitations

The review is still in progress and the meeting produced no concluded amendment. The trade figures are official government data and are not independently audited in the release. This article is informational and is not investment advice.
