India invites European participation in 10 GWh battery manufacturing bid

India's Heavy Industries Minister discussed clean-industry cooperation with a European Parliament delegation and highlighted an open 10 GWh manufacturing bid under the Advanced Chemistry Cell programme.
The capacity is intended for stationary storage applications, with bids scheduled to close on 13 October 2026. The discussion also covered battery supply chains, industrial standards and possible European participation in Indian manufacturing.
Why it matters
Stationary storage is becoming an important part of power-system flexibility. Domestic cell capacity could reduce import exposure if projects reach production with competitive cost, quality and performance.

The bid should be assessed through committed capacity, commissioning milestones, cell chemistry, domestic value addition, performance guarantees and supply-chain resilience rather than headline gigawatt-hours alone.
Limitations
The meeting produced no disclosed investment commitment. Bid participation, awarded capacity, financial terms, technology choices and eventual production remain unknown until the competitive process advances.
