India's textile exports rise 16.1% in August
Exports reached ₹29,776 crore, with year-on-year gains reported across cotton, man-made textiles, carpets, handicrafts and garments.
India's textile and apparel exports reached ₹29,776 crore in August 2026, up 16.1% from ₹25,656 crore a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Textiles.
Exports from April through August totalled ₹1.43 lakh crore, a 10.3% increase. The ministry reported August growth of 24.1% in cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups and handloom products, 19.9% in man-made textiles, 15% in carpets, 41.4% in handicrafts excluding carpets and 6.1% in ready-made garments.
Why it matters
Growth across several segments gives exporters, manufacturers and logistics providers an early indication of external demand and the sector's contribution to industrial activity and employment.

The next test is whether the improvement persists across destinations and reflects stronger shipment volumes and product value, rather than mainly price or currency effects.

The release reports nominal rupee values but does not provide shipment volumes, unit values, destination mix, exchange-rate effects or seasonal adjustment. Final trade tables are needed before drawing longer-term conclusions.
