Gujarat agencies create time-bound approval path for highway crossings
NHAI and SSNNL have agreed a common framework for national-highway, canal and pipeline crossings across Gujarat.
The National Highways Authority of India and Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited have signed an agreement covering approvals for national-highway, canal and pipeline crossings in Gujarat.
The framework provides for earlier sharing of project information, standard engineering practices and clearer construction and maintenance responsibilities. The two agencies also agreed to waive various fees and charges for crossings covered by the agreement.
Why it matters
Cross-agency approvals can delay otherwise viable infrastructure projects. A common process can reduce repeated reviews and make responsibility for crossing structures clearer.

The agreement should be judged through approval time, project delay, redesign frequency, safety performance and lifecycle maintenance, with results published against the previous process.
