Gujarat reports 27,652 hectares under mangrove programme and launches GIS portal
The reported coverage is close to the state's 2023-27 target, while ecological outcomes will depend on survival, habitat quality and transparent monitoring.
The Environment Ministry said Gujarat has covered 27,652 hectares under the MISHTI mangrove programme against a 2023-27 target of 29,250 hectares. The reported total includes 12,450 hectares in Kori Creek.
At a workshop in Bhuj, the ministry launched a Mangrove GIS portal and released a Gujarat mangrove atlas. The programme uses site-specific restoration, community participation and technology-enabled monitoring, according to the official release.

Mangroves support coastal biodiversity, fisheries, shoreline protection and climate resilience. A public decision-support system could improve how restoration sites and progress are monitored if its data and methods are accessible.
