Railways clears ₹133.23 crore Gujarat road-over-bridge project

The four-lane bridge will replace Level Crossing 53 on the Udhna-Ukai Songadh section of Western Railway.

Indian Railways has approved a four-lane road over bridge to replace Level Crossing 53 on the Udhna-Ukai Songadh section of Western Railway. The ₹133.2295 crore project is to be funded almost equally by Railways and the Gujarat government.

The design includes an open-web girder railway span, a 311.58-metre viaduct and a 524.32-metre approach. The crossing's 62% skew increases the engineering complexity described in the official release.

Why it matters

Grade separation can reduce road-rail conflict, improve safety and limit operational interference at a busy crossing.

SCULTRA point of view

The approval should lead to transparent milestones for land, design review, utility shifting, traffic management, construction and final safety audit, with cost and delay reporting from both funding partners.

Limitations

The release gives no construction start, completion date, tender status, traffic baseline, crash history or quantified benefit estimate. Approval does not establish that the bridge is contracted or operational.
