India's real gross domestic product was estimated at ₹81.36 lakh crore in the first quarter of FY2026–27, compared with ₹75.46 lakh crore in the same quarter a year earlier. The year-on-year growth rate was 7.8%.

Nominal GDP was estimated at ₹88.27 lakh crore, up 10.3%. Real gross value added grew 8.2%, while nominal GVA increased 11.5%.

Why it matters

The data offers the first broad reading of economic activity for the financial year. It is also part of the revised national accounts framework with 2022–23 as the base year, designed to better reflect the present structure of the economy.

SCULTRA interpretation

The opening-quarter pace is strong on both GDP and GVA measures. Durability will depend on the breadth of sectoral growth, household demand, investment and subsequent revisions rather than one headline figure alone.

Uncertainty and limitation

Quarterly national accounts are estimates and can change when more complete information is incorporated. Cross-series comparisons should account for the changed base year. MoSPI said its next quarterly release is due on 30 November 2026.
