Six states sign an agreement on the Kishau multipurpose dam
The proposed national project combines water storage, irrigation and hydropower on the Tons River at the Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border.
The chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana have signed an agreement on the Kishau Multipurpose Project.
The proposed national project includes a 232.6-metre concrete gravity dam on the Tons River, storage of 1,562 million cubic metres, irrigation for 97,000 hectares and projected generation of 1,476 million units of hydropower. The official release says the Union government will bear about 90% of the financial burden and participating states the remainder.
Why it matters
The agreement advances a long-pending interstate water and power project with implications for irrigation, drinking-water allocation, hydropower, river flows and downstream communities.

The agreement is a governance milestone, but the project should be judged through a published cost, schedule, water-allocation rules, environmental flows, catchment impacts, rehabilitation and transparent benefit sharing.
Limitations
The release does not provide the final project cost, construction timetable, clearance status, detailed state allocations, resettlement scope, hydrological assumptions or independent environmental assessment. Generation and irrigation figures are projections, not operating results.
