National business-approval platform reports wider coverage after five years
NSWS now connects approvals from 32 central departments and 34 states and Union Territories, according to a government backgrounder.
A government backgrounder marking five years of the National Single Window System says the platform provides access to more than 327 central approvals and 3,452 state approvals across 34 states and Union Territories.
As of 21 September, it reported more than 5.69 lakh onboarded business entities, an annual average above 3.06 lakh applications and more than 2.26 lakh approvals processed each year. Industrial Entrepreneur Memorandum and industrial-licence processes have moved to the platform, while the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation has integrated all 74 licensing modules.
Why it matters
A unified interface can reduce repeated submissions and improve visibility across regulatory processes. Its practical value depends on whether the departments behind the portal complete approvals more quickly and predictably.

The next accountability layer should show processing-time distributions, rejection and resubmission rates, service-level compliance, department and state comparisons, user satisfaction and full completion rates.
Limitations
The coverage and usage figures are government-reported. The release provides no independently audited time series, denominator for eligible approvals, application-level completion rate, processing benchmark or comparison with performance before the platform.
