Food secretaries set a 708.64 LMT paddy procurement estimate for 2026–27
Central and state officials also reviewed storage, public distribution and tighter broken-grain specifications for raw and parboiled rice.
Central and state food secretaries have fixed the Kharif paddy procurement estimate for the 2026–27 season at 708.64 lakh metric tonnes.
The conference also reviewed procurement, storage and public-distribution operations and tightened broken-grain specifications for raw and parboiled rice.
Why it matters
Procurement plans and grain specifications affect farmers, millers, transport, storage capacity and the flow of rice into public food-distribution systems. Quality-rule changes can also alter compliance and processing costs.
SCULTRA point of view
The estimate is an operating plan rather than a result. Execution will depend on state procurement centres, storage and transport readiness, miller adaptation and clear inspection practices for the revised specifications.
Limitations
An estimate is not actual procurement. The release does not establish final crop output, state-level fulfilment, compliance cost or the effect of the revised specifications on acceptance and rejection rates.
