PM SHRI school selection reaches 13,092 against a target above 14,500
The Rs 27,360 crore programme is approaching its national selection target, but completed upgrades and learning outcomes remain the larger test.
A government backgrounder says 13,092 schools had been selected for PM SHRI by July 2026 against a target of more than 14,500.
The programme was launched in September 2022 with a stated outlay of Rs 27,360 crore for 2022-23 to 2026-27. It is intended to develop exemplar schools with modern learning environments, green practices and stronger student support.

Selection counts should lead to reporting on completed upgrades, teacher capacity, attendance, learning outcomes and access for disadvantaged students. Those measures show whether the model is reaching classrooms.
Limitations
This is a programme backgrounder, not a new sanction. A previous government dashboard snapshot showed 13,070 schools, so the date and definition behind each count must remain explicit.
