Railways approves Kavach 4.0 across 607.7 route kilometres

The ₹252 crore approval covers identified balance sections of the North Eastern Railway's Lucknow Division.

Indian Railways has approved ₹252 crore to install Kavach Version 4.0 over 607.7 route kilometres covering identified balance sections of the North Eastern Railway's Lucknow Division.

Kavach is an automatic train-protection system designed to monitor train movement, help prevent signals being passed at danger and apply brakes when required.

Why it matters

Automatic train protection can reduce the consequences of human error and is a core safety layer for a large mixed-traffic railway network.

SCULTRA point of view

The route should be counted as protected only after tendering, installation, locomotive fitment, independent safety certification, testing and commissioning are complete.

Limitations

This is a funding approval, not a commissioning notice. The release gives no completion date, procurement schedule, train-fitment coverage, contractor allocation or baseline safety performance for the selected sections.
