Railways approves higher-capacity traction on Savalyapuram-Guntur route
The ₹142 crore project will upgrade 73 route kilometres from a 1x25 kV to a 2x25 kV electric traction system.
Indian Railways has approved ₹142 crore to upgrade the Savalyapuram-Guntur electric traction system from 1x25 kV to 2x25 kV.
The project covers 73 route kilometres and 146 track kilometres on South Coast Railway and forms part of the high-utilisation Vasco-Gadag-Guntakal-Nandyal-Savalyapuram-Guntur-Vijayawada route.
Why it matters
Higher-capacity traction infrastructure can support traffic growth, reduce voltage constraints and improve the reliability of electric railway operations.

The project should be evaluated through completion, capacity released, energy losses, reliability, train throughput and the emissions effect of traffic shifted to electric rail.
Limitations
The release gives no completion date, traffic forecast, current power constraint, energy-efficiency baseline, procurement status or quantified environmental benefit. This is an approval, not a completed upgrade.
