Seven Solapur stations receive electronic-interlocking approval
The ₹209 crore project covers seven stations on a high-density route where other train-control works have also been sanctioned.
Indian Railways has approved ₹209 crore for electronic interlocking at Mohol, Mundhewadi, Bale, Solapur, Hotgi Junction-Hotgi A Cabin, Shahabad and Wadi Junction on the High Density Network 7 route.
Kavach, automatic block signalling and centralised traffic control works have also been sanctioned on the route. Electronic interlocking replaces relay-based systems with computer-based control of points and signals.
Why it matters
The signalling upgrade is a prerequisite for safer, more reliable high-density operations and for integrating train-protection and traffic-control systems.
SCULTRA point of view
The work should be managed as an interoperable safety stack, with attention to cutover risk, fail-safe testing, maintenance capacity, cybersecurity and commissioning by station.
Limitations
The release announces approval rather than completion and gives no implementation schedule, contract award, station-level cost, outage plan or post-commissioning reliability target.
