UIDAI opens an in-app face-authentication kit and testing sandbox

The Android and iOS kit is designed to simplify Aadhaar face-authentication integration, while a controlled environment supports pre-production testing.

By SCULTRA Services Editorial DeskPublished Updated

UIDAI has launched an Aadhaar Face Authentication software-development kit for native Android and iOS applications, along with a controlled sandbox for organisations preparing integrations.

The sandbox covers consent, face capture, liveness, authentication, error handling and spoofing scenarios before production onboarding. UIDAI says the kit reduces dependence on the separate FaceRD app and that its face-authentication system has processed more than 500 crore transactions across nearly 200 entities.

Why it matters

Simpler integration could widen face-based identity checks in banking, public services and other applications, while increasing the importance of security, consent and accessibility controls.

SCULTRA point of view

Developer convenience and identity assurance are separate questions. Independent testing should cover false rejection, accessibility, spoof resistance, consent design, data handling and grievance resolution.

Limitations

An available kit and sandbox do not mean every service has completed production onboarding. The security and transaction figures are UIDAI statements, not an independent audit of every integration.
